Meet General Manager, Scott Weatherup

General Manager Scott Weatherup began his career with Hastings Hotels 14 years ago, beginning his journey within the group at Ballygally Castle in 2010. Scott progressed through management positions at sister properties the Culloden Estate & Spa, Stormont Hotel and the Everglades. Scott has been at the helm in Ballygally Castle since September 2021. During his career, Scott completed several training courses and earned various qualifications, including a management program from Ulster University. Get to know a little more about Scott!

How long have you worked for Hastings Hotels/Ballygally Castle?

I started with Hastings Hotels in 2010 at Ballygally Castle as a Night Porter, before progressing to Bar Supervisor, Duty Manager, and then Assistant Hotel Manager in 2014. Four years later, in 2018, I moved to the Stormont Hotel as Deputy General Manager and then to Cultra Inn as General Manager in 2019. I returned to Ballygally Castle in 2021 as the General Manager.

What’s your favourite part of your job?

My favourite part of my job is working alongside and leading our fantastic team to create memorable experiences for our guests. It is wonderful to see how closely our team collaborates, and how they take pride in the exceptional service we provide.

What was your reason for joining the team?

Ballygally Castle has always been my favourite hotel within the group, as it was the home of my first positions within Hastings. It has been great to take on the challenge of leading the team and taking the hotel to the next level!

Do you have any previous experience before joining Ballygally Castle Hotel?

Previously, I served as the Restaurant & Bar Manager at the Highways Hotel in Larne and as a Trainee Manager at Pinky Moons, an American restaurant also in Larne.

Are there any interesting stories/highlights working at Ballygally Castle?

Highlights of my time at Ballygally Castle include hosting Alex Polizzi in 2023, witnessing the Giro D’Italia pass by the hotel in 2014, experiencing the intriguing presence of our resident ghost, Lady Isabell, and seeing the significant renovation and extension of the hotel in 2013.
